Today marks the launch of Justsmile Issue 2, Together in the Fold.
This issue is a celebration of family and community: two foundational pillars of Justsmile. Adonai Tesfamariam stars on the cover, together with Carmen Amare in the cover story, Stranger than Paradise.
Equal parts character study and personal recollection, Yohana Lebasi and Dawit N.M. set out to create images recounting the 1980’s scenes of their parents of Eritrean and Ethiopian descent, respectively, arrival in the diaspora. Models Carmen and Adonai, also of Eritrean and Ethiopian descent, respectively, serve as actors and liaisons to memories and communities of the past.
