On Thursday evening, April 30th, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, a research library of the New York Public Library, honored Solange Knowles with the Schomburg Medal of Excellence.
The Centennial Gala celebrated 100 years of the Schomburg Center, one of the world’s leading cultural institutions devoted to the preservation, research, interpretation, and exhibition of materials focused on African American, African Diasporan, and African experiences, originally founded in 1925.
The Schomburg Medal of Excellence acknowledges Knowles’ profound contributions to shaping and preserving Black culture, history, and storytelling. Former Justsmile cover stars Tremaine Emory and Bill T. Jones were guests at the gala, amongst other medal honorees Angela Bassett, Edwidge Danticat, Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Nikole Hannah-Jones.
